Entire Class Project:
The students were given the assignment to research and input two pieces of information each. As a class they built the following web page:
Ancient India



Other Ancient Empires:
The class was split into six teams with three to four members in each team. The team was assigned an ancient empire to research and study. The assignment was to design a web page showing the viewer the Historical, Geographic, and Cultural aspect of each empire. Afterwards, the teams gave a classroom presentation of their material. They were allowed to either present them separately or as a concerted effort with the other team having the same topic. Their presentations were also captured for viewing.

Greece Assignment
The students were re-assigned into six different groups. As a group, they collaborated on another web page design. The class was studying Ancient and Classical Greece. They were to design a page on the following topic:

Assignment:
"Classical Greek culture influence spread throughout the world, including the United States. Creat a "Then and Now" wiki web page showing examples of each element of Greek culture in the United States that were influenced by classical Greek styles.

Using the internet or the library, find examples from classical Greece and then compare them with contemporary buildings and art.

  • Find examples from classical Greece and represent them on the wiki web page
  • Find buildings or other art that show evidence of a classical Greek influence. Render them on the web page.
  • Label each entry clearly."

*The students were assigned to various groups to create a podcast. They are to script a radio style broadcast interview with a member of the Ancient Roman Society. Each group was given a different member, such as a senator, gladiator, commoner, slave, Christian, and soldier.

Roman Podcast Assignment:
I have just been contacted by Mr. Timothy Michael Einstein, a member of a group of scientists from Silicon Valley, who just created a time machine. This time machine can only bring someone from the past to the present for a short duration of time, no longer than fifteen minutes. If the person’s stay is less than fifteen minutes, they will be returned to their own time with no memory of what had occurred. This is important to maintain the integrity of our curent time line. If their stay is longer than fifteen minutes, they will retain the memory of their visit and our time will be damaged beyond repair.
Mr. Einstein happen to come across our wiki pages and decided to choose our class as the best group to use the time machine to find out about Roman history. Our assignment is to break up into groups in order to bring a specifically assigned person from Ancient Rome and conduct an interview with that person. Since this is the first time we are attempting time travel, your group will be assigned a person that is not a public figure, in the case that they retain the memory of their visit. Since this is going to be well publized, the interview will be recorded and broadcast to the entire world on an online podcast. The inteview must be as informative a possible, so I recommend that you spend at least ten minutes with the time traveller, but remember not to go over fifteen minutes. Each group will be assigned a person from a different aspect of the Roman culture in order for us to see if our school textbooks are correct. Find out as much as possible about that person’s role in Ancient Rome. To maximize their time here, keep the discussion within their specific role in Roman culture. In other words, do not waste time inteviewing them about other roles that another team may already be covering.
